The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane
Nov 20 2008, 9:38 PM EST
The story The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane could be better titled as "The Red Badge of Boredom", quote unquote, Mrs. Brownback. This is true in many ways. The book is about a character named, Henry Fleming, AKA "the youth", who joins the army during the Civil War. The story follows "the youth" during the war and basically explains what was going on around him and how he feels about the events around him. The author was very descriptive in describing these scenes, about to the point of over doing it with figurative language; this is actually about all he did rather than moving along with the story. In my opinion, this book really dragged on for only being 100 pages, it seemed more like 200. But if you are a reader who enjoys full descriptions and figurative language, you would probably enjoy the book.
